The Warren City School District is moving all K-12 students to online/remote learning effective Monday, Nov. 23 through Dec. 18 – the end of the first semester, at minimum – due to increasing numbers of students and staff testing positive with COVID-19, related quarantines and pending COVID-19 test results across the district, the City of Warren and Trumbull County overall.

Should health conditions improve in our area, we anticipate returning to hybrid instruction as early as Monday, Jan. 4.

The Warren City School District has revised the Lunch Delivery Schedule.The new schedule starts Monday, Nov. 23. Times at all school buildings have been extended and hours are now Noon to 1 p.m. Times at other sites remain unchanged.

COHORT A & B Students
Beginning Monday, November 23rd, your child is expected to log into their teacher’s Clever page daily from their device to begin each school day Monday through Friday.
Reminder, week of November 23rd students will only have class on Monday and Tuesday due to Thanksgiving Break. School will resume Monday, November 30th. See times below of your child’s school day:

Lincoln and McGuffey
Student time: 8:15 a.m. – 3:25 p.m.

Students in grades K-5 will meet with their teacher starting at 8:15 a.m. and engage in instruction by logging into their teacher’s Clever page. Teachers will outline the daily schedule of virtual live instruction and remote/independent instruction. The daily schedule will be posted on the teacher Clever Page. A student day concludes at 3:25 p.m.

Students in grades 6-8 will begin at 8:15 in their first period class, meeting with their homeroom/first period teacher found on the teacher Clever Page. Grade 6-8 students will follow their daily schedule by logging onto each of their teacher’s Clever Page for that particular period. A student day concludes at 3:25 p.m.

Jefferson and Willard
Student time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:10 p.m.

Students in grades K-5 will meet with their teacher starting at 9:00 a.m. and engage in instruction by logging into their teacher’s Clever page. Teachers will outline the daily schedule of virtual live instruction and remote/independent instruction. The daily schedule will be posted on the teacher Clever Page. A student day concludes at 4:10 p.m.

Students in grades 6-8 will begin at 9:00 in their first period class, meeting with their homeroom/first period teacher found on the teacher Clever Page. Grade 6-8 students will follow their daily schedule by logging onto each of their teacher’s Clever Page for that particular period. A student day concludes at 4:10 p.m.

COHORT C Students (those who were already fully online) are to follow their existing schedule

The Warren City School District has received notification that one McGuffey and one Warren G. Harding staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. While we must protect the privacy of the employees involved, we believe it is best to communicate transparently with you so you can make well-informed decisions for your family. We believe these cases to be the result of high transmission and community spread.

Contact tracing has taken place. No known individuals have been determined to be a contact by definition. However, if the school district receives additional or changing information, we will continue to review this situation and any individuals impacted will immediately be contacted by both a Warren City Schools administrator and a representative from the Warren City Health Department.

There is nothing more important to Warren City Schools than the safety and health of our
students, our staff and their families.

Students in the Warren City School District’s four PK-8 Schools are benefitting from food vouchers made available to them through a partnership between the district and Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.

With funding from the United Fresh Start Foundation, TNP and WCSD are distributing the vouchers to students and are encouraging them to go to designated convenience stores throughout Warren to exchange them for a fresh, healthy snack.

Remote and in-class students are eligible to participate. Students have 30 days from when the vouchers are issued to use them. Vouchers are nontransferable and the stores will accept them from the named students only.

Warren City School District has placed “book sharing” boxes throughout the city, on previous elementary school sites, and filled them with new and gently used books to encourage and ignite a citywide love for reading.

Our “Little Neighborhood Libraries” project was inspired, in part, by the national “Little Free Library” initiative.

“During this uncertain time, it is even more important for families to actively participate in reading experiences with their children,” said Karin Kilpatrick, a WCSD Title I Family Outreach Coordinator.

“The circumstances of the pandemic may have limited our exposure to school and/or libraries, but we are determined to offer our families opportunities to share books and literacy activities in order to accelerate our students’ reading achievements. Good reading is the key to a successful future for all of us.”

Bob Lewis, a WCSD carpenter, repaired several old boxes formerly used by the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, which, in collaboration with Karin Kilpatrick, established a Little Library program in the city several years ago. The district has now taken over ownership/maintenance of the Little Libraries that are on school properties and added others. Kilpatrick, along with Kevin Stringer, a WCSD Title I Parent/Family Engagement Coordinator, help maintain the libraries by making sure they are filled with books for the community to access.

Lewis crafted new boxes to accommodate additional books so the program could be expanded to serve more families.

How it works:

• Take a walk, or a ride, to your Little Neighborhood Library.
• Browse through the books and other materials.
• Find something you like? Take it home with you.
• Finished? Return the books and materials … please be neat and keep boxes tidy!

We ask that you help us keep the library and the materials in good order.

• You may donate quality, gently used books to your Little Neighborhood Library in order to keep a lively collection and offer a variety of choices to readers.
• Donated books should be clean, in good repair and cover appropriate topics and language for a community library collection.

WARREN – Effectively immediately, Warren G. Harding High School is transitioning all of its students to online/remote learning only.

The move to online/remote learning is effective Friday, Nov. 13. Teachers and related support staff will report to work.

The district anticipates keeping this schedule in place for at least two (2) weeks with the earliest return to in-person learning on Monday, Nov. 30.

Over the past 24 hours, Warren City Schools has experienced an increase in our COVID-19 data at Harding and we have received confirmation in the last 24 hours of a staff member and two students testing positive with Coronavirus.

These cases do not appear to be related, and contact tracing has been taking place and will continue. Any individual who has been determined to be a contact by definition will be immediately notified by an administrator or school nurse within the Warren City School District. That individual will be directed to quarantine, and will receive additional communications from the Warren City Health Department.

At this time, an additional six students have been quarantined and have already been contacted.

Anyone who has not been contacted has not been determined to be a contact of an individual who has tested positive for Coronavirus. However, if the school district receives additional or changing information, we will continue to review this situation and any individuals impacted will immediately be contacted by both a Warren City Schools administrator and a representative from the Warren City Health Department.

The decision to modify instruction for students was made by Superintendent Steve Chiaro and Harding Principal Dante Capers after analyzing current data.

We are working directly with Warren City Health officials on contract tracing efforts during this situation. Any individual determined to be a direct contact will be notified by an Administrator at Warren City Schools and the Warren City Health Department. Warren City Schools will continue to follow all COVID-related safety procedures.
