7th-Grade Girls Go Red for STEM Event

Students across Warren’s four PK-8 schools recently donned their red for STEM Goes Red for Girls.

Science teachers and administrators selected 7th graders from each of the the district’s four PK-8 schools to attend the STEM ((Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) event held at the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

At the event, students attended sessions in First Energy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Basic Work Tool Identification; and Heart Anatomy, Physiology and Health. The also visited the Vendor Fair where they learned about pacemakers, CPR, and much more!

Students were excited that they were able to bring home their own stethoscope from the event. They learned to listen to their heart sound at the event.

During lunch, students were able to sit with women who are professionals in various STEM fields in which some students could have developed an interest. 

One Lincoln 7th grade student said, “The fact that most of the mentors told me to keep believing in what I want to do with my life. They really helped me when they said that the way I think is really impressive.” 

State Troopers give Lincoln kindergarteners lesson on Safety

Visitors from the Ohio State Highway Patrol talked to to kindergarten students at the Lincoln PK-8 School about safety on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2023.

State troopers and the students discussed safety in the car, on the road, and just about anywhere you go.

It was a first time visit from the troopers, but the school invited them back anytime they would like to talk to students about safety.

It was a Very Merry ‘Grinchmas’ at Willard PK-8

Contrary to his reputation, Mr. Grinch didn’t steal Christmas at the Willard PK-8 School.

In fact, he made the season all the more merrier with a special visit to Willard on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023.

Mr. Grinch made a special “live” appearance during a viewing of one of his popular movies in the gymnasium. Students invited to the showing were those who exhibited extended efforts in their positive behavior for the month of December. Their reward included watching the movie and eating some popcorn.

The students shared their popcorn with Mr. Grinch as he made his way through the group, hugging and fist bumping students along the way.

Jefferson students present ‘Canine Christmas’ to furry friends at the county dog pound

Students at the Jefferson PK-8 School wanted to make sure the dogs weren’t left out in the cold this Christmas.

For their 2023 Service Project, the students raised over $600 to purchase special gifts for the canines at the Trumbull County Dog Pound. Most of the money was raised by selling snow cones.

Students presented the special gifts to our local dog wardens on Monday, Dec. 19, 2023.  

Students, families stroll through ‘Winter Wonderland’ at Lincoln PK-8 School

The gymnasium at the Lincoln PK-8 School sparkled with holiday festivities as students and their families strolled through a ‘Winter Wonderland’ on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023.

As younger students made their way through various stations, older students served as elves, Santa’s helpers and various holiday characters. Santa was also on hand to hear wish list and gift requests.

Some students deposited letters to Santa in a mailbox with a direct link to the North Pole.

Throughout the day, students from preschool to 3rd grade visited the holiday gala, while students in higher grades and their families visited after school.

Winter 2023-24 just got a little warmer for WCS students & community members with Berk Enterprises’ latest donation

Warren’s Jefferson PK-8 School once again served as Berk Enterprises’ clothing donation distribution site.

For the third year in a row, Warren-based Berk donated dozens of coats, socks and other clothing items to Warren City Schools and several organizations across the community. The company collected around 1,800 new winter clothing items of various sizes.

The items were distributed on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023. Jefferson staff and students were on hand to help representatives from the various organizations transfer boxes and bags of items from the school to their vehicles.

The donation started years ago benefitting the Warren Family Mission, but has grown to include other groups. This year, including Warren City Schools, 11 groups benefitted from the donations, including St. Vincent de Paul, Someplace Safe and Jewish Family Community Services.

Students at the “J” learn fundamentals during recent Cavs Academy

Students at the Jefferson PK-8 School got a close-up view of some fundamentals of basketball when when representatives from the Cleveland Cavaliers brought the Cavs Academy to Warren on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023.

The learning experience is part of the organization’s commitment to inspire future generations to grow through their involvement in basketball.

The Cavaliers provide opportunities for youth to learn the fundamentals of the game through the organization’s basketball camps and clinics.

WGH NHS inducts 29 new members

The Warren G. Harding National Honor Society inducted 29 new members during a ceremony Dec. 7, 2023, at Warren G. Harding High School.

The 2023-2024 inductees include four members of the WGH Class of 2024 and 25 members of the WGH Class of 2025.
