Getting to the Heart of the Matter: WCS 7th-grade girls explore STEM Goes Red

On Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, 32 Warren City Schools’ 7th-grade girls representing the district’s four PK-8 buildings traveled to Rootstown with their school counselors to  participate in the STEM Goes Red event sponsored by the American Heart Association.

This was the third year that Warren City Schools has sent 7th grade girls who have shown an interest in the medical and STEM fields.

The event is held at the Northeast Ohio Medical University, NEOMED, in Rootstown, OH.  The goal of the program is to have girls explore the possibilities in STEM careers and for them to see their own potential in pursuing these careers.

ABOUT STEM GOES RED

The American Heart Association is working to engage more women in STEM through STEM Goes Red. The program draws from the association’s strong legacy of science, education and discovery to help propel young women into rewarding STEM careers, according to the association’s website.

Further, by giving students access to leading employers and experts, they have the chance for an insider look at what they do. STEM Goes Red attendees gain firsthand experience, connect with inspiring professionals and learn about jobs across STEM fields.

Senior Raiders, WCS preschoolers connect through crafty collaborative program

Ms. Allen’s Raider Day Seniors recently helped Ms. Hernandez’s preschool class with holiday crafts as the first part of an ongoing senior-preschool program for collaborative craft time.
