Curriculum & Instruction

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is one of three offices within the Department of Teaching and Learning, alongside the Offices of Special Education and State and Federal Programs. Together, we are committed to providing Warren students with high-quality curriculum and instruction that build strong foundational academic knowledge,develop critical and complex thinking skills, and prepare students for continued success.

Our Pre-K through Grade 12 curriculum is aligned with state learning standards acrossall content areas. In collaboration with ELA and Math Coordinators and Coaches, ourteachers develop curriculum units, select standards-aligned instructional materials, andcreate assessments that support student learning and reflect the expectations of state assessments.

Through the ongoing support of our Coordinators, Coaches, and Principals of Schoolmprovement Curriculum and Instruction, provide professional learning, guidance, and resources to help educators deliver effective instruction and meet the rigorous expectations of the Ohio’s Learning Standards. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures that teaching practices, curriculum, and assessments work together to support student achievement and prepare all learners for success.

Our Focus Areas

As we strive to maintain high standards for all students and ensure achievement at high levels across all disciplines, the Office of Curriculum and Instruction focuses its efforts on the following priorities:

• Standards-Aligned Curriculum: Implementing curriculum that meets the expectations of Ohio’s Learning Standards.
• Evidenced-Based Instruction: Promoting the use of research-based instructional strategies and best practices to enhance teaching and learning.
• Student Interventions: Developing and strengthening a system of interventions to address the diverse learning needs of all students.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitoring progress toward district goals outlined in
• Data-Driven Decision-Making: Using student achievement data and ongoing assessments to guide instructional decisions and improve outcomes.

Supporting Teaching and Learning

These priorities are supported through a comprehensive approach to curriculum development, instructional resources, assessment, and student support, including:

•  High Quality Instructional Materials: Curricula materials with a clear scope and sequence aligned to State standards. English language arts HQIM must also align with the science of reading and strategies for effective literacy instruction.
• Curriculum Refinement: Continually reviewing and refining instructional units and aligning resources with Ohio’s Learning Standards.
• Literacy Across All Content Areas: Integrating literacy skills into instruction across all disciplines to strengthen students’ reading, writing, communication, and comprehension.
• Technology Integration: Leveraging technology to enhance instruction, engage learners, and support student achievement.
• Comprehensive Assessment: Using a comprehensive assessment system to monitor student growth, measure progress, and inform instructional planning.
