Warren City Schools, in partnership with Akron Children’s Hospital, will facilitate Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics for individuals ages 12 and older on Thursday, May 20.

The clinics are being tentatively planned for all four of the district’s PK-8 schools. However, sites may be consolidated as needed based upon registration numbers. Should sites by consolidated, the district will bus students from their home school buildings to one of the district’s other schools where vaccinations will be taking place.

Pre-registration is required through participation surveys sent Thursday, May 13, to all families in the Warren City School District. Surveys/pre-registrations must be completed by noon on Monday, May 17.

Families will be notified via email/FinalForms of their appointment times by a school nurse or representative. 

This vaccination is a two-step process during which participants will be administered the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine in two doses.

The second dosage will be administered during similar clinics on Thursday, June 10.

Both clinic dates were selected because they fall within time frames when school will be in session – either as part of the regular school year or during the district’s summer learning program, explained Superintendent Steve Chiaro.

Program Open to K-8 Students in All Four PK-8 Schools

The Warren City Schools is excited to announce that we will be taking applications for students to participate in our June Extended Learning Opportunities at all four schools!

This opportunity will have an academic focus and is designed to support students who were impacted educationally due to COVID-19 over the past school year. 

Students will engage with teachers and support staff in all four academic content areas (Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies).  Over 100 dedicated teachers have signed up to teach and all we need now is for you to complete an application for your child.  

Students will be in school a full school day.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided and we will provide transportation to students that ride the bus during the regular school year.  Start and end times have not been finalized as we are waiting until after all applications have been submitted to work on transportation routes.  The program will run for the following 14 days:

June 7 – 10

June 14 – 17

June 21 – 24

June 28 & 29

Warren City School District has revised its food distribution schedule to include new sites and times. The new schedule take effect Monday, march 15, 2021.

The serving time at each site is 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

The Warren City School District, in partnership with Akron Children’s Hospital, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, facilitated COVID-19 vaccinations for 112 essential employees who work in the district.

On Friday, Feb. 26, Akron Children Children’s Hospital will administer vaccines to approximately 425 additional Warren City School District employees, finishing the first round of this two-step process.

Thank you to everyone who has assisted in the vaccination process that has already proved to be a great success for Warren City Schools.

Warren City School District received final confirmation today, Feb. 17, 2021, from our health partners at Akron Children’s Hospital that our staff vaccinations WILL take place on Friday, Feb. 26. 

With this in mind, the following adjustment will be necessary next week, Feb. 22-26, for students and staff schedules:

Monday and Tuesday – REGULAR schedule for ALL students and staff;

Wednesday – CHANGED/ REVISED SCHEDULE with Hybrid group B reporting;

Thursday – REGULAR schedule for ALL students and staff;

Friday- Students DO NOT REPORT. Follow “Wednesday” schedule; NO PK.

Additionally we will follow this schedule again in a few weeks when we receive our second dose of vaccination.

In consultation with the Warren City Health Department, other local health officials and in review of recent data/statistics specific to the City of Warren/Warren City Schools, the district is delaying the return of Warren G. Harding High School students to the hybrid learning schedule.

However, the district is still planning and preparing for the return of our PK-8 students as communicated last week.

Warren G. Harding students in group A will return on Monday, January 25th.

Warren G. Harding students in group B will return on Thursday, January 28th.

The Warren City School Board of Education welcomed newly appointed member Jacqueline Shannon to the Board on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The Board appointed Mrs. Shannon to fill the unexpired term of longtime board member Robert L. Faulkner Sr., who resigned Dec. 8.  

She was sworn in during the Board’s meeting on Tuesday.

“I am honored to begin my collaboration with this awesome team,” Mrs. Shannon said.

Mrs. Shannon is employed by Cleveland Clinic as a certified cancer registrar. She serves as treasurer of the Ohio Cancer Registrar Association (OCRA).

She has been a longtime parent and advocate of Warren City Schools. She and her late husband Patrick, a Warren graduate, raised their children in Warren and both were very active in the school community.

“Jackie’s career leadership roles, her volunteerism in the Warren community, her enthusiasm and testimony to the strength of the Warren City Schools’ academic programs and extracurricular offerings, in addition to the depth of her volunteer work within the district, made her the perfect candidate to fill the board seat,” said Board President Patti Limperos.

Mrs. Shannon served on the Bond Levy Committee, enthusiastically campaigning to encourage residents to support the building of new schools in Warren. She continued that commitment to school advocacy through her work and timeless dedication to a number of district parent organizations.

She is a past PTO President, having served on the committee for the district’s PK-8 buildings, and was an officer on the Warren G. Harding High School Band Boosters. She is a member of the pastor nominating committee at her church, where she serves as a deacon. 

Warren City Schools, in partnership with Inspiring Minds, has been awarded a $125,000 grant to support remote learning among students in grades 7-12.

The award, announced by Philanthropy Ohio and the Ohio Department of Education on Monday, is being provided through the Collaborative Fund for Educating Remotely and Transforming Schools (the Collaborative Fund).

The Warren City Schools and Inspiring Minds project are among 29 being funded through this second round of awards. The focus of the project is to support students academically, socially and emotionally by building strengths as it relates to careers, leadership development and community service.

“The Warren City Schools has had a long-standing relationship with Inspiring Minds,” said Associate Superintendent Wendy Hartzell. “This grant allows us to expand our partnership and opportunities for students in these unique learning environments.”

The students will receive support through Inspiring Minds during their remote learning days. Students will complete work and receive academic assistance as needed with adult support and supervision.

Through this collaboration, Warren City Schools and Inspiring Minds staff will evaluate which supports are demonstrating to be most effective for students involved in the program and how those supports may be replicated for students not directly involved.

The Warren City School District will continue with full online/remote learning for all PK-12 students Monday, Jan. 4 through, at minimum, Friday, Jan. 8, due to elevated COVID-19 transmission numbers across the City of Warren and Trumbull County overall.

The district will re-evaluate this decision based upon the most current health information provided to us closer to Wednesday, Jan. 6, to determine whether students will return to hybrid learning the following week.

“While our goal is to always provide in-person learning, the elevated number of COVID-19 cases across the state, county and our city is affecting our schools’ abilities to maintain consistent and stable in-person learning and effective operations,” said Superintendent Steve Chiaro.

Mr. Chiaro said the district will continue to work closely with the Trumbull County and Warren City Health Departments monitoring health conditions on a week-by-week basis to determine when the district will be able to return to in-person instruction.

The district shifted all students to online/remote learning Nov. 23 due to increasing numbers of students and staff testing positive with COVID-19, related quarantines and pending COVID-19 test results across the district the City of Warren and Trumbull County overall.

On Nov. 24, the Trumbull County Board of Health issued a stay-at-home advisory asking all Trumbull County schools to switch to remote learning.
