STEM Challenge in the 6th grade

STEM is an acronym for the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Students were tasked with becomming Civil Engineers by building bridges in Mrs. Selak’s STEM class. The bridges had to be 14cm long. They were able to use marshmallows, toothpicks, heart and gummy candies. Mmmmm tasty! The students researched different types of bridges and shapes that would make the most sturdy structures.

The winning bridge was built by Ethan Johnson and Julius Walker who are working on it in the picture below.

Lincoln PK-8 Penny War

Lincoln will be having a penny war this month from February 14th to February 28th.

Put your spare change towards a great cause. All proceeds from our penny war fundraiser will go to support the United Way of Trumbull County.

Pennies are “Positive” and here is how it works:

  • Containers are located in the Main Hall by the Cafeteria.
  • Each penny counts as one positive point for YOUR grade level!
  • Each silver coin counts as negative points for OTHER grade levels. In other words, dropping a quarter in another grade’s bucket takes 25 points from their total.
  • At the end of the day on February 28th, all change/points will be tallied and the grade level with the most points will win a Pizza party!!!!

Start saving your change – it can make a big difference

PENNY WAR RULES

  • ADDING (+):
    • 1 penny = 1 point
  • SUBTRACTING (-):
    • 1 nickle = 5 points
    • 1 dime = 10 points
    • 1 quarter = 25 points

2/2/22: Twin Day

Lincoln PreK-8 had a fun day when the students and staff celebrated the date 2/2/22. We called it twin day. The fact that it also was on a Tuesday is a a rare day in ancient calendar studies. This sequence of numbers is used as a reference for balance, relationships, harmony, love and communication and because it fell on a Tuesday it was said to amplify the “astronomical” energy. Well, I’m not sure about all that but I know we had some amazing energy in the building on our 2/2/22 day.

Celebrating the 100th day of school!

The Kindergarten students of Mrs. Gazso’s class came to school on January 31st dressed in “Granny” gear. Yes, the students wore clothing that made them look like a person who would be 100 years old. They had grey hair, glasses and clothing that made them look like they were very old. It was fun and has been something that the kindergarten classes have done in previous years.

Point of View

Students in the fourth grade were practicing identifying and comparing points of view in their ELA class by completing task cards. They had a fun time looking at the cards and discussing what they thought about the subject on the cards. On their clipboards they compared each other’s point of view.

Llamas of Love

Mrs. Babik’s art classes designed and painted ceramic llamas for the hospice patients at Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice to brighten up their holiday.  The students also used other craft decorations (gems, yarn, artificial flowers etc.) to make their llama’s extra special. The gift tag on each had the  Lincoln theme “PRIDE” an acronym for “personal responsibility in daily excellence” included on it.  The hospice recipients and nurses were sure to feel a “llotta llove” from the efforts of these students.

Lincoln’s National Junior Honor Society has been busy!

The students in Lincoln’s NJHS have been busy with many service projects since the beginning of the school year. Mrs. Kelly Notar, NJHS Director, has chosen some of their activities to highlight.

The NJHS students donated goodies to create a dessert bar for the 6-8 students who earned this treat by excellent effort in grades and behavior.

The NJHS students brought in clothing and other donations for the Lincoln pantry. They also organized the room and folded and put away the clothes on shelves and on hangers.

NJHS held a food drive for the Warren Mission and challenged the classes each day with announcements. The class that brought in the most would have pizza reward. Mrs. Venetti’s 2nd grade class won.

NJHS students paired up with the Lincoln newspaper club to create designs to decorate the halls for the PK-8 students.

Keep up the great work NJHS students! You are awesome!
