Lincolns Annual K-3 Pumpkin Decorating contest

Lincoln Library Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Dear Parents, Students, and Teachers,
This year, the library is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest for students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd.
The K-3 students and staff are invited to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. It’s easy and fun for the whole family! Students and staff may also bring in a decorated pumpkin to the school library and enter it into our contest October 24th – Noon October 26th. All entries must be received by Noon October 26th.
Contest Rules:
- ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS! Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Most importantly, we don’t want a child handling a knife or carving tools. Carved pumpkins will not be entered into the contest and will be sent home. To decorate you can use paper, glue, paint, markers, pipe cleaners, fabric, or other craft items.
- Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character in an elementary book. On the entry form, you must write the title and author of the book. **I would recommend getting the book information first before even starting to decorate the pumpkin. **
- This is a home project and pumpkins should be done mostly by students with a little assistance from an adult.
- Pumpkins may be transported on the bus, but they must fit in the student’s lap and be inside a bag (per the bus garage). Pumpkins will also be accepted during school hours. Just bring them up to the school office.
- Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. When you bring your pumpkin and entry form to Mrs. Selak, she will record the information so that each pumpkin can be properly identified.
- Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges.
- Prizes: one grand prize winner will receive a $25 scholastic book fair gift certificate. Two runner ups will receive $15 scholastic book Fair gift certificates. Staff winners will receive a $25 scholastic book fair gift certificate. The class with the most participation will win a popcorn party in the library with Mrs. Selak.
- Pumpkins will be sent home by Friday, October 28th. Any pumpkin remaining will be discarded.

Creepy Crayons
Mrs. Selak read the book “Creepy Crayons” by Aaron Reynolds to Mrs. Gibson-Williams second grade class today during their Library time. They then did a directed drawing of the creepy crayon and doodled the other characters from previous titles, “The Creepy Pair of Underwear” and the “The Creepy Carrots”. After we were done drawing and checking out books we did the Crayon Castle Challenge. The students were tasked with creating a crayon castle that held eight crayons by using popsicle sticks, dixie cups, and crayons.

Students Using Tech
The 6th grade students in Mrs. Colliers class, collaboratively used technology to find the area of composite figures using Classkick tools and CPM eTools. For their hard work, perseverance and effort, students received feedback from Mrs. Collier, in the form of electronic stickers and golden tickets (they are put in a raffle and at the end of the week students have a chance to win cool stuff).
