Lincolns Annual K-3 Pumpkin Decorating contest

Lincoln Library Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Dear Parents, Students, and Teachers,
This year, the library is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest for students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd.

The K-3 students and staff are invited to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. It’s easy and fun for the whole family! Students and staff may also bring in a decorated pumpkin to the school library and enter it into our contest October 24th – Noon October 26th. All entries must be received by Noon October 26th.

Contest Rules:

  1. ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS! Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Most importantly, we don’t want a child handling a knife or carving tools. Carved pumpkins will not be entered into the contest and will be sent home. To decorate you can use paper, glue, paint, markers, pipe cleaners, fabric, or other craft items.
  2. Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character in an elementary book. On the entry form, you must write the title and author of the book. **I would recommend getting the book information first before even starting to decorate the pumpkin. **
  3. This is a home project and pumpkins should be done mostly by students with a little assistance from an adult.
  4. Pumpkins may be transported on the bus, but they must fit in the student’s lap and be inside a bag (per the bus garage). Pumpkins will also be accepted during school hours. Just bring them up to the school office.
  5. Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. When you bring your pumpkin and entry form to Mrs. Selak, she will record the information so that each pumpkin can be properly identified.
  6. Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges.
  7. Prizes: one grand prize winner will receive a $25 scholastic book fair gift certificate. Two runner ups will receive $15 scholastic book Fair gift certificates. Staff winners will receive a $25 scholastic book fair gift certificate. The class with the most participation will win a popcorn party in the library with Mrs. Selak.
  8. Pumpkins will be sent home by Friday, October 28th. Any pumpkin remaining will be discarded.
