The WGH boys freshman, JV, and varsity basketball games at Mentor this evening (December 21, 2021) have been canceled. The games will be rescheduled at a later date.
Holiday Sounds Fill the Air
Thank you to Ms. Sirney, Mr. Young, and all of the Warren G. Harding Band students for bringing the joy of music to our school this season! In addition to the concert performed on Wednesday, December 8, staff and students have had the pleasure of hearing them practice for their concert. Staff also enjoyed selections played at their annual staff breakfast.

Harding Seniors Recognized As Twenty Under 20 Finalists
Casey Owsley, Anthony Payiavlas and Camryn Stewart each accepted their Twenty Under 20 Awards Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021.
They joined the other members of the 2021 Class made up of the most impressive young leaders in Trumbull County.
The program, co-sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley and Kent State University at Trumbull, honors 20 high-achieving individuals younger than 20 for their leadership skills through volunteerism, extracurricular activities and academic achievements.
Guidance Counselor Sue Mizik says that Casey “understands the value of service to others and has maintained that outlook through great personal loss.” Her family has been hit hard by COVID-19, and experienced the loss of her grandmother and cousin due to the virus. Even so, Casey has maintained a 4.2 GPA, and continues to participate in the WGH marching band and symphonic bands and several extracurricular activities.
Anthony says he likes “helping out the less fortunate, giving them hope.” He likes “being there for someone,” and feels it’s his job to help. Anthony has been captain of the boys golf and tennis teams since 2019. He is active with the Greek Orthodox Youth Association and has been a member of the National Honor Society since 8th grade. He maintains a 4.1 GPA. Harding counselor Erin Kampf-Melillo says of Anthony that he “has engaged himself in our school environment in a way that makes a difference.”
Camryn says it’s her “passion to help others who need it.” She has maintained a 3.9 GPA while taking difficult advanced placement classes and college-credit plus courses. She is active on her school’s volleyball and softball teams, and serves as manager of the girls basketball team. She has added participating with National honor Society’s Big Brother/Big Sister mentor program to her long list of commitments. WGH Englisher teacher Melissa Rentz describes Camryn as someone who “wants to see her peers succeed by helping them with their skills.”
Busy in the Shop
Woodshop students at WGH led by Xander Blose and Shawn Jakubek have been busy working with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership. They recently built a bench to be placed at “Our Place,” a park on Highland Avenue, SW..

Parent-Teacher Conferences Scheduled for 9 and 11.

E.L.I.T.E. Team 48 Hosts Event at WGH
Warren G. Harding’s FIRST Robotic’s Team 48 hosted the much anticipated, in-person Mahoning Valley Robotics Challenge on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Following district guidelines, only the competitors and their advisors attended the event which included 17 teams from Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Letter to Senior Families

WGH Senior Families:
On behalf of the Warren City School District Administration and Board of Education, we would like to congratulate you and your graduating senior on their success and perseverance as they navigated their way through the last two academic years in such extraordinary times.
The COVID 19 pandemic has created much stress and many regulations on each of us in our attempts to have a significant impact on public health and safety. It is with this in mind we are sending this additional communication to our families regarding our upcoming May 27th graduation ceremony.
The Warren City School District, and all Trumbull County Schools were informed on our most recent call with local health officials that given a graduation ceremony is indeed a school event, and health orders remain in place for our schools until June 2, 2021, it is expected that all participants and guests in attendance follow the health and safety protocols that have been in place during the COVID 19 pandemic. This includes the use of properly worn facial coverings, for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, both indoors and outdoors. This also includes appropriate social distancing, families sitting together in designated locations, hand sanitizing, self-health monitoring and screening prior to attending the event.
Graduation is a special time for our seniors and their families and we want this event to be a culminating celebration for everyone involved. For this to happen, we need your support and cooperation as we strive to follow the health and safety guidelines and expectations set forth by our local health officials. Thank you, in advance, for making this day all it can be for our graduates!
