SEL Collaboration with Lindsay Goossens

Last week, Lindsay Goossens from Grace/SMARTS came in and taught a SEL/arts integration lesson with our 6th graders.

She talked with the students about identifying our feelings and that joy is an emotion that’s positive; and it’s OK to have negative feelings, but we can’t get stuck in those negative feelings.

8th Grade Visits a Holocaust Program

On Thursday, December 20th, McGuffey’s 8th graders traveled to Beachwood, OH where the program, Face to Face is held.  The 8th graders saw the inside of a Jewish house of worship, listened to a Rabbi talk about Judaism and were able to see artifacts from the Holocaust, as well as listen to stories pertaining to different areas of the Holocaust, i.e. the Kinder Transport.  But the highlight of the trip was listening to a survivor of the Holocaust, Stanley Bernath, tell his story and Dr. Richard Dutro talk about liberating a camp as a soldier, once the U.S. entered the war.  What a great experience for all of the students and staff.
