Kindergarten Pumpkin Carving

Kindergarten students and family members carved pumpkins recently as part of an annual program here at the school. We would like to thank Believer’s Church for their help and generous donation that provided pumpkins and carving tools for all the students. The kindergarten students were able to take their pumpkins home at the end of the day.

Welcome Mayor Franklin!

5th grade students in Ms. McCracken’s class were visited by special guest Mayor Franklin recently. He read two books to the students and spent some time visiting with them. Ms. McCracken has invited Mayor Franklin several times now and he is always excited to come to Jefferson to spend time with the students.

Welcome Back

Students at Jefferson were greeted their first day back for the 2019-2020 school year by men in the community with high-fives, smiles and words of encouragement. This event has been organized as a district wide event each year. Thank you to all the supporters that came out to make the first day back special for the students!

Families enjoyed dinner, snow cones, popcorn, face painting, dancing, as well as outdoor activities such as a bounce house obstacle course and basketball. Thank you to all the students and families that came out to celebrate the beginning of another great year at the ‘J’!

Innovations Conference

Jefferson middle school students were invited to participate in the Mahoning Valley Innovations Conference on March 14th by Mr. Miles Jay. Students listened to a forum panel discussing issues within the communities and possible solutions. Students then led an activity at the conference, guiding the group through readings of various poems by poet Tupac Shakur. We would like to thank Mr. Jay for his invitation to the event and congratulate the students for their hard work and the positive role they played during the conference.

COSI Visits Jefferson

Recently, students at Jefferson in grades K-4 we treated to a visit from the science organization COSI. Students watched and listened to demonstrations and got to help in experiments. Students were able to explore different stations to learn about how their body works. A special thank you to Mrs. Francisco for helping to organize this experience for the students.

Veterans Day Concert

Students in grades 2 and 3 honored Veterans with a music performance on Friday, November 9th led by Miss Komsa. Students opened the concert by reciting the pledge of allegiance and listening to one of our 8th grade students perform the National Anthem. They then performed various patriotic favorites and recited poems. Thank you to Miss Komsa for preparing the concert and to all the students for their hard work in preparing for the performance.
