Students Report: Boys’ Basketball

Written by: Morgan McLennan, and Emily Trisler

January 27th The Raider boys face Youngstown East High School. The student section is buzzing with excitement for tonight’s game. While the action on the court will certainly be center stage and exciting for all in attendance, tonight, the focus will be on the cheerleaders. There has been a definite rivalry between East and Harding cheerleaders that goes deep on both sides of the court. With East having a former Harding cheerleader as their coach they have been known to use some of our cheers against us throughout the years. We hope our cheerleaders show East who the originals are and that our Raider Boys beat East. Go Raiders!

By: Emma Frazzini, Makenzie Monsman, and Jenna Greathouse

On Saturday January 14th, the Warren G. Harding swim and dive team held the AAC Championship meet at Harding High School. Harding welcomed Howland, Canfield and Boardman swim teams to compete against us and each other in our home pool. Even though Harding did not win, they still had an amazing meet with 40 season bests, split bests, or life time best swims. The swimmers and coaches really appreciate all the other teams and people who made the meet possible.

Students Report: Wellness

By: Morgan McLennan, Emily Trisler

January is mental wellness month and Student Council is highlighting the importance of recognizing mental wellness. Starting January 11th there will be flyers with different hotline numbers to contact when you are in a bad place. Student Council will be encouraging students to talk to their loved ones and to know that they are not alone. After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, there is a tendency for mental health to decline and that is okay! We are all in the same boat and are here for every student! We encourage each student to surround themselves with loving friends and family and find someone to talk to during these tough times. Student Council will dedicate a day to wearing mental wellness colors to draw more attention and focus on the topic. Student Council wishes everyone a wonderful and successful second semester! Go Raiders

Students Report: Refresh

By Lillian Lowry and Madison Hazy

That time has come around once again, we’re in the second half of our school year. While it may be hard to focus during this final stretch, it is important to remain engaged in class. There are many techniques to stay focused and engaged in class. First, make sure you eliminate distractions by putting all technology away. Second, be sure to participate and ask questions when you don’t understand the lesson. Finally, be open and honest with your teacher. If you’re having a bad day or need help, reaching out to your teacher can be a big help. By participating in class and completing work you open up more opportunities for yourself. Good grades and good communication with teachers and others is key to developing habits that will help you later in life. Staying on top of school work and putting in the effort helps make the transition into adulthood easier, and can even open up occupational opportunities into the future. Wishing you lots of luck this semester.

Students Report: Cheers to Soup!

By: Monica Ruckman, Lilliahna Allen, Bella Feuerwerker, Dallani Morre

One of the most often referenced “favorite lunches” here at WGH has always been the salad bar. Students and staff alike loved the salad bar and were distraught to learn before winter break that the option of salad bar was being replaced with a soup bar. This dissatisfaction was short lived as the soup bar debuted at Warren G Harding this week. The soup bar has options such as potato, beef, and chili. There are also many fresh fruit and vegetable options that offer nutritious options for students and staff each day. Lunches can often seem repetitive, so it is nice to have a change. After many students were disappointed about no longer having a salad bar, the soup bar turned out to be a nice addition to the lunch rotation.

Students Report: Happy New Year!

By: Kennedi Jackson

The start of the second semester is here. New classes and class changes. One of the focuses of the new semester is “fresh start”. If students didn’t do as well as they wanted to first semester, now is the time for them to take advantage of the new year. Students should remember to “Stay in the W” by coming to school on time and every day, getting all work for classes turned in on time, and being on their best behavior in classes and while on school property. There are only a few weeks until students start testing and scheduling for next year and only five months until the year is over and summer break begins. The last few months will fly by and students should work hard to finish the year off strong and set up for a fresh start next year!

Students Report: PBIS Holiday Fun!

By Emily Trisler and Morgan McLennan

Before winter break students who qualified for the PBIS event had a blast participating in activities throughout the school. The events included watching a Christmas movie and eating popcorn, painting ornaments made by our woodshop class, rocking out with an Undercover Juicebox featuring three amazing teachers, Mr. Whitacre, Mr. Ensley, and Mr. Rising, and last but not least open gym. Students finally got a break from academics and had a moment to relax and have fun. The event lasted from second period to fifth period and was open to all students who showcased excellent attendance, grades, and behavior over the course of the second quarter. The PBIS team is working on similar events for the remaining quarters. Overall, the event ran smoothly and was the perfect way to end the first semester.
