It was newly constructed in 2009 and is the second largest elementary building in the Warren City School District.\u00a0 Willard currently serves approximately 953 students.<\/p><p>Willard houses three Pods that offer a variety of programs and educational supports:<\/p><p><strong>PK-2<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Two half-day Pre-K classrooms servicing two groups of children ages 3 and 4 and 1 all day preschool serving 4 year olds<\/li><li>Pre-K classrooms servicing one group of children ages 3 and 4 funded by Trumbull County Educational Service Center<\/li><li>Teachers and administrators in grades K-2 \u00a0trained in conjunction with Ohio State University\u2019s Literacy Collaborative.<\/li><li>A conceptually based Math program in grades PK-5<\/li><li>Foster Grandparent Program \u2013 community volunteers who assist in classrooms daily<\/li><li>Students in grades K- 2 are receiving additional supports through the use of LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention)<\/li><li>Social Emotional Learning provided by CASEL<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>3-5<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Literacy coaches are currently being trained under Literacy Collaborative through Ohio State University<\/li><li>Follows a balanced-literacy framework<\/li><li>A conceptually based Math program in grades 3-5<\/li><li>Social Emotional Learning provided by CASEL<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>6-8<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Kent State University provides professional development to enhance teachers\u2019 content knowledge, to develop tasks, rubrics, and provides self-reflection with Ohio\u2019s New Learning Standards twice a month in mathematics<\/li><li>Teacher-Based Teams are focusing on Literacy-Based Standards through all content areas<\/li><li>Daily Intervention and Enrichment is built into the students\u2019 academic day<\/li><li>Social Emotional Learning provided by CASEL<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Student Activities<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Destination Imagination<\/li><li>Spelling Bee<\/li><li>Geography Bee<\/li><li>Challenge 24<\/li><li>National Junior Honor Society<\/li><li>English Festival<\/li><li>Science Club<\/li><li>Student Council<\/li><li>Intramural Sports<\/li><li>Junior Achievement<\/li><li>Master Gardner<\/li><li>Fourth Grade Swim Program<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Community Partnerships<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Master Gardner \u2013 sponsored by Ohio State University Extension<\/li><li>Altrusa<\/li><li>Warren Rotary<\/li><li>North Mar Church<\/li><li>First Presbyterian<\/li><li>PTO<\/li><li>Trinity Baptist Church<\/li><li>First United Church of Christ<\/li><li>Warren City Federation of Women\u2019s Club<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Our Staff<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>100% of our teaching staff have a Bachelor\u2019s Degree<\/li><li>2% of our teaching staff have earned a Master\u2019s Degree<\/li><li>2 Literacy Coaches<\/li><li>2 Math Coaches<\/li><li>\u00a05 full-time Reading Specialists who offer interventions to struggling readers<\/li><li>\u00a0Full-time Paraprofessionals servicing students with special needs<\/li><li>2 kindergarten assistants servicing two classrooms each<\/li><li>2 full-time Speech Pathologist<\/li><li>1 full-time School Psychologist<\/li><li>2 full-time School Counselors<\/li><li>2 School Community Liaisons<\/li><li>4 Secretaries<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>PK-8 Academic Supports and Programs<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Willard\u2019s Administrative Team consists of 3 Principals, a Supervisor of School Improvement, and a Special Education Supervisor<\/li><li>Literacy and Family events span from PK-6<\/li><li>Musical performances in the elementary grades and band\/choir performances in the middle school<\/li><li>Foster grandparent program<\/li><li>Willard Golden Tickets<\/li><li>Student Recognition Programs<\/li><li>School Resource Officer<\/li><li>Student led daily video announcements<\/li><li><strong>Any Given Child<\/strong>\u00a0Grant from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.<\/li><li>Student Art Show<\/li><\/ul><p>Recipients of several grants, including fresh fruit and vegetable grant that provides students in grade PK-5 fresh fruits and vegetables daily; several teachers received the Schmer Trust and DiYorio Foundation Grant to obtain valuable resources for their classroom needs.<\/p><h3>School Visitor Procedures<\/h3><p>The District welcomes and encourages visits by parents and other adult residents of the community. However, for the educational program to continue undisturbed and to prevent the intrusion of disruptive persons into the schools, the District has adopted the following visitor rules. Upon arrival at the school, parents and visitors must register with the office.<\/li><li>The Building Administrator or designee will arrange all parent or visitor conferences with students and may need to be present.<\/li><li>A student will be permitted to leave the school only with a person who has been clearly identified as his or her parent or guardian or a person authorized to act on the parent or guardian\u2019s behalf.<\/li><li>Business people must also register and receive authorization to be present to conduct business with a staff member.<\/li><li>The Superintendent or Building Administrator has the authority to prohibit the entry or to expel any person from a school when there<br \/>is reason to believe the person would be detrimental to the order of the school.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Weapons of Any Kind Are Not Permitted In A School Safety Zone<\/strong>\u00a0The Board of Education prohibits staff members, students and visitors from possessing, storing, making or using a weapon, including a concealed weapon in a school safety zone. The Superintendent\/designee shall refer any violator to law enforcement officials, regardless of whether he\/she possesses a valid concealed weapons license. (Board Policy\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.neola.com\/warren-oh\/search\/policies\/po5772.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#5772<\/a>)<\/p><p><strong>Threatening Behavior Toward a Staff Member Is Not Permitted.<\/strong>\u00a0Any words or deeds that intimidate a staff member or cause anxiety concerning his\/her physical well-being is strictly forbidden. Any parent, visitor, staff member or agent of the Board who is found to have threatened a member of the staff may be reported to the police.
